Tesamorelin is a synthetic peptide analog of growth hormone-releasing hormone, composed of 44 amino acids. It was designed to retain the biological activity of the native hormone while resisting rapid enzymatic degradation. The compound is classified as a growth hormone secretagogue and belongs to the broader family of hypothalamic releasing factors. In research and clinical settings, it is studied for its ability to stimulate pituitary growth hormone release. Its structure includes a modification at the N-terminus that contributes to an extended half-life relative to native growth hormone-releasing hormone.
Tesamorelin binds to growth hormone-releasing hormone receptors on the surface of pituitary somatotroph cells. This binding activates adenylate cyclase, raising intracellular cyclic AMP levels and triggering the release of growth hormone into circulation. The elevated growth hormone then stimulates hepatic production of insulin-like growth factor 1. Because the effect is mediated through the endogenous axis, secretion remains subject to feedback regulation. This distinguishes it from direct growth hormone administration, which bypasses pituitary control entirely.
Binding of tesamorelin to the growth hormone-releasing hormone receptor on anterior pituitary somatotrophs activates a Gs protein pathway, raises cyclic AMP, and triggers release of stored growth hormone into the bloodstream. Because the analogue resists dipeptidyl peptidase-4, its plasma residence time exceeds that of native GHRH, producing a larger and more sustained secretory signal. The released growth hormone then acts on the liver and peripheral tissues to raise insulin-like growth factor 1, which feeds back on the hypothalamus and pituitary. This axis explains both the intended effects on fat distribution and the biological markers used to track them.
Studies of the compound rely on imaging and laboratory endpoints rather than on symptoms alone. Visceral adipose tissue is usually quantified by computed tomography or magnetic resonance imaging at the level of the abdomen, with waist circumference serving as a cheaper but less specific proxy. Blood work tracks insulin-like growth factor 1, fasting glucose, glycated hemoglobin, and lipid fractions. In the pivotal trials the imaging endpoint fell by roughly fifteen to twenty percent over six months, subcutaneous fat changed little, and the visceral fat returned toward baseline after treatment stopped, a pattern that shapes how clinicians discuss durability.

Tesamorelin is a synthetic peptide analog of growth hormone-releasing hormone (GHRH). Its sequence corresponds to the 44-amino-acid form of human GHRH with a trans-3-hexenoyl group attached to the N-terminal tyrosine. This modification slows enzymatic cleavage and extends the peptide's activity relative to the native hormone. The compound is produced by solid-phase peptide synthesis and supplied as a lyophilized powder. Researchers classify it as a GHRH receptor agonist. Its structure places it in the same family as other growth hormone secretagogues that act on the pituitary.
Binding of tesamorelin to GHRH receptors on pituitary somatotroph cells triggers cyclic AMP signaling and the release of growth hormone into circulation. Because the peptide acts upstream of the growth hormone axis, its effects are partly mediated by hepatic insulin-like growth factor 1 (IGF-1) production. The pulsatile character of endogenous growth hormone secretion is preserved rather than replaced. Whether amplified signaling produces effects beyond those of native GHRH remains an area of ongoing investigation.

The non-magnetic character of zinc and its lack of color in solution delayed discovery of its importance to biochemistry and nutrition. This changed in 1940 when carbonic anhydrase, an enzyme that scrubs carbon dioxide from blood, was shown to have zinc in its active site. The digestive enzyme carboxypeptidase became the second known zinc-containing enzyme in 1955.
Leonardo da Vinci endorsed this model in 1510, although he hesitated to include green, noting that green could be obtained by mixing blue and yellow. Also Richard Waller, in his "Catalogue of Simple and Mixed Colors" (1686), graphed these four colors in a square. These four colors have often been referred to as "the primary psychological colors".

Generally feared more than any other Australian snake, the coastal taipan is considered the third-most venomous terrestrial snake in the world, behind the inland taipan and eastern brown snake. It is classified as a snake of medical importance by the World Health Organization. In 1935, local health authorities established a register of cases of injury by plants and animals in northern Queensland. By 1940, one survivor (who lost his sense of smell for some months) and two fatalities had been recorded from coastal taipan bites, with another three historical fatalities added in 1944. George Rosendale, a Guugu Yimithirr man, was bitten through his boots and thick socks while stacking wood. He became sick 15–30 minutes later, with ptosis, nausea, and difficulty breathing, and was conveyed to Cooktown Hospital. A doctor visiting the area on holiday treated him with fluids, and tiger snake antivenom flown up from Cairns. He was flown to Cairns Hospital the next day and was discharged after 19 days. He also reported losing his sense of smell. Rosendale became a Lutheran pastor and died at age 89 in 2019. Articles about how dangerous the species was appeared more frequently in newspapers and books from the late 1930s onwards, including wild tales of it hiding in trees and dropping on victims. Australian naturalist and writer Charles Barrett reported that one had pursued a person for two hours before being killed with a brush hook. After a specimen was found in the Northern Territory in 1947, fears were raised it may occur further south in more populated areas of Queensland.
An attempted motorcycle bomb attack on a Police APC was foiled in Lakki Marwat District. On 12 June, an alleged TTP commander was killed in a police operation in Bannu District, two bodies of civilians killed by militants were also recovered and an attempt to destroy a bridge was foiled. Pakistani forces claimed that they had concluded Operation Iron Fist-3, which was carried out from 1-12 June 2026, killing 62 TTP militants including four commanders and capturing eight, destroying 14 militant infrastructure sites, with 48 insurgents being killed in the second phase of operations, according to ISPR. Two civilians were killed and several wounded in a suicide blast near a mosque in Lakki Marwat. On 13 June, a religious scholar was assassinated by TTP and a bridge and a mosque were damaged in an attack by TTP insurgents in Bannu District. CTD captured the brother of an Afghan TTP militant, who himself was allegedly involved in supplying drones, electronic equipment and phones to TTP insurgents. On 14 June, militants attacked a police checkpoint in Kurram District killing a civilian and wounding three police officers, after which militant hideouts were struck by Pakistani artillery fire. 12 insurgents were killed in an infiltration attempt across the border from Afghanistan in Chaman District. Four peace committee members were killed in a TTP attack in Lakki Marwat District and ten suspected insurgents were arrested from Karak District. A TTP drone strike in Kurram District killed four civilians and wounded four more.
The G-spot is analogous to the base of the penis and has additionally been theorized, with the sentiment from researcher Amichai Kilchevsky that because female fetal development is the "default" state in the absence of substantial exposure to male hormones and therefore the penis is essentially a clitoris enlarged by such hormones, there is no evolutionary reason why females would have an entity in addition to the clitoris that can produce orgasms. The general difficulty of achieving orgasms vaginally, which is a predicament that is likely due to nature easing the process of childbearing by drastically reducing the number of vaginal nerve endings, challenge arguments that vaginal orgasms help encourage sexual intercourse to facilitate reproduction. Supporting a distinct G-spot, however, is a study by Rutgers University, published in 2011, which was the first to map the female genitals onto the sensory portion of the brain; the scans indicated that the brain registered distinct feelings between stimulating the clitoris, the cervix and the vaginal wall – where the G-spot is reported to be – when several women stimulated themselves in a functional magnetic resonance machine. Barry Komisaruk, head of the research findings, stated that he feels that "the bulk of the evidence shows that the G-spot is not a particular thing" and that it is "a region, it's a convergence of many different structures".

=== Controversy === Newborn screening tests have become a subject of political controversy in the last decade. Lawsuits, media attention, and advocacy groups have surfaced a number of different, and possibly countervailing, positions on the use of screening tests. Some have asked for government mandates to widen the extent of the screening to find detectable and treatable birth defects. Others have opposed mandatory screening concerned that effective follow-up and treatment may not be available, or that false positive screening tests may cause harm to infants and their families. Others have learned that government agencies were often secretly storing the results in databases for future genetic research, often without consent of the parents nor limits on how the data could be used in the future . In the UK a campaign called the Newborn Screening Collaborative, 17 small rare disease organisations including Genetic Alliance UK, have joined together to raise awareness surrounding this issue and promote the positives of early diagnosis.
=== Use and abuse === Flupentixol/melitracen is the single most popular antidepressant in China, according to 2013–2018 prescription data. It is generally not prescribed by psychiatrists, but by clinicians working in other areas, mainly gastroenterologists, cardiologists, endocrinologists, neurologists, even general physicians and surgeons. Only when a patient encounters a side effect on this drug are they referred to a psychiatrist. DXY.cn notes a significant lack of evidence-based guidance on using and discontinuing this medication despite its widespread use in China. Adverse effects from longer-term use and withdrawal symptoms have been reported. Self-medication with this drug used to be common in India; it still is in China, where pharmacies exercise little care to ensure the existence of a prescription. It is also easily obtained in Lebanon without a prescription. In a study of Lebanese emergency department patients who take flupentixol/melitracen, 36% (45 out of 125) were diagnosed as having a substance use disorder for this medication under the DSM-V criteria. Among Jordanian pharmacists, 70.6% were willing to dispense the medication in situations including malpractice.
== Current research == In her Yale laboratory, Horsley has studied the cellular and molecular pathways involved in skin tissue development and maintenance, as well as the relationship between fat cells in the skin, wound healing, regeneration of hair follicles, and the formation of keratinocytes during embryonic development. Horsley currently studies adult stem cells in epithelial skin tissue and how these cells contribute to wound healing and the development of cancer, using the mouse as a genetic model system. Horsley revolutionized the field of epithelial stem cell biology by identifying skin adipocyte stem cells, establishing a major role for these progenitor cells in regulating turnover, rejuvenation and wound repair of the skin epidermis and hair follicles. She found that within epithelial tissues, cells tend to confine to distinct micro-environments. Mechanisms of adipocyte cells in tissue homeostasis and regeneration are not well understood. Horsley discovered the source of both fat cells and immune cells as local signals, as the hormone signal, prolactin, is responsible for stem cell activity and the regeneration of skin cells. Together, her laboratory also found that cell differentiation of adipocytes and hair growth occur simultaneously, and when the cell differentiation process (adipogenesis) ceases, hair growth stops and the follicles deteriorate. Her team identified specific adipose progenitors in the skin, which indicated the necessity of these cells to sufficiently induce hair follicle growth.

It is a synthetic analog of growth hormone-releasing hormone, a hypothalamic peptide. It functions as a growth hormone secretagogue acting at pituitary receptors. The classification separates it from direct growth hormone products.
The synthetic peptide incorporates modifications that slow enzymatic breakdown in circulation. Native growth hormone-releasing hormone is short-lived, whereas the analog is designed for greater stability. The core amino acid backbone is largely retained.
The main studied application is reduction of excess visceral abdominal fat in HIV-associated lipodystrophy. Research has measured fat changes through imaging. Findings concern fat distribution rather than overall body weight.
It mimics a natural hypothalamic signal that tells the pituitary to release growth hormone. The result is a rise in circulating growth hormone and, indirectly, in insulin-like growth factor 1. Over weeks of treatment this shift is associated with a selective decrease in fat stored inside the abdomen.
